Full-Spectrum Excavation
Services & More

for Middlebrook Trace Apartment Buildings.

The Middlebrook Trace Apartment Building excavation project consists of two four-story apartment buildings with 82 total units in Staunton, VA. Based in Blacksburg, VA, Peacock Holland Construction contracted with GoodEx for a turnkey excavation project that started in 2023 and is set to finish in the Summer of 2024. GoodEx performed various tasks, including erosion and sediment control work, utilities, pipe laying, blasting, excavation, compaction, paving, and concrete.

What We’re Doing

Middlebrook Trace is a 24 acre site, 12 of which are in the land disturbance area. In this project, the GoodEx team will provide the following services:

  • Erosion control and sediment management
  • Stormwater, drinking water and sanitary piping and installation
  • Earthwork, compaction and leveling building pads
  • Blasting, hauling and removing significant volumes of rock from the site
  • The installation of a large bioretention pond (27,000 sq ft) and an underground detention system for stormwater control and treatment
  • Paving roadways and a parking lot with 162 parking spaces
  • Concrete curbs and sidewalk installation at the complex

The Problems

We Are Solving

While this project is still in process, GoodEx has already overcome several complex elements with ease. It took over a month of blasting to remove all the rocks onsite, but with over 25 years of demolition and rock removal experience, we kept the project on schedule. GoodEx also understands the importance of compaction and ensured the building pads were graded and appropriately compacted on the steep site for the eventual four-story structures.

They’re very upfront and very communicative

They’re problem solvers for sure. They will bring me problems, but then they also bring a lot of potential solutions. They’re very upfront and very communicative.

How We

Make It Easy

GoodEx’s team has handled everything for Peacock Holland Construction to create a streamlined project experience. Our project managers worked with the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), attended meetings with the City of Staunton to answer questions about project details, worked with soil engineers on excavation and compaction criteria, and scheduled all applicable inspections with local jurisdictions and third-party professionals. In this way, GoodEx reduced barriers for the general contractor, saving precious time and energy.

They have relationships & reputation in the area

I value the fact that they have the relationships and reputation with the jurisdictions in the area so we can work through issues and they can keep us moving.
